Passed away on April 30, 2018 at Jewish Hospital. Dr. Peterson was the son of Gerald Milton Peterson, MD and Julia Hoover Peterson. He was predeceased by his sister Judith Lynn Peterson Hubbard.
Dr. Peterson was a member of The Jefferson County Medical Society, a past member of The Radiological Society of North America and The Greater Louisville Radiological Society. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Peterson completed a residency at the University of Louisville Department of Radiology followed by a fellowship in gastrointestinal radiology at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.
When Dr. Peterson returned to Louisville, he joined the Department of Radiology at University of Louisville and subsequently became the acting chairman. He spent four years in Bowling Green, KY and again, returning to Louisville, joined Diagnostic Medical Imaging Associates where he practiced medical imaging for 30 plus years.
Dr. Peterson’s interests included music. A first tenor, he sang with The Motet Singers in Louisville, The Ohio Wesleyan Choir, where he was the only non-music major member, was a singer in The Stephen Foster Story in Bardstown, KY, and sang in numerous weddings of his family and friends.
As a member of the American Contract Bridge League, Dr. Peterson played duplicate bridge at the Louisville Bridge Club for many years. Highlights included winning a national tournament and recently becoming an Emerald Life Master, an elite rank.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dr. Carol Baron Peterson, two daughters and their husbands – Dr. Erin Peterson-Fleming (Dr. Matthew Fleming), Lauren Peterson Betts (Brad Betts), three granddaughters: Quinn Baron Fleming, Eden Lee Fleming and Julia Elizabeth Betts, and his cat, Quincy. He is also survived by his brother Kent Wright Peterson, MD, sisters-in-law Patricia Meyer-Peterson, Alice Baron Smith, Janice Baron Bird, brothers-in-law Daniel Smith, Mark Bird, and Sam Hubbard, and many nieces and nephews.
